My family came from Scotland, though Maj John MacLeod. He stayed in Ireland. The Irish version of MacLeod, I am told, is McGlade. One of his descendants was: Owen Mc Glade who was born in the mid-18th century in County Derry and married Sara McConaha [widow Dymond] of Parish Dungiven- Co Derry. They ahd three children:
* Philip [Felimy] born abt 1859 died 1835 in White Water Chapel-Co Derry [he did visit in US, but returned to Ireland]
* Mary [she might have come to US for a visit or stayed?]
** Owen Owen of Og Mc Glade born 1760/1770; Fine Classical education in Ireland ; fled to US due to fighting for Irish rights from British [Irish
Roman Cath's held only 1/7 of Ireland; forbidden to purchase, inherit or rent land; excluded from Irish Parliment; excluded from Army; worship restricted]
[fled in a hail of bullets]; so he would not be found he reverted to McLeod when he arrived in DC; died in DC 26 Dec 1846. While living here he was an
educator at Central Academy. He married Rebecca Clyde Coulson and had 5 children: Jane _Mary_, Angelina, Ann Elizabeth, Columbiana and Christoper
